Frequently asked questions
Is converting XLS to XLSX free?
Yes. Conversion is free, with no sign-up and no watermarks.
Is my XLS file uploaded to a server?
Yes. Unlike most conversions on this site, XLS to XLSX runs on our server: the file is sent over an encrypted connection, converted in an isolated environment without network access and deleted right after you download the result, or within 3 hours at the latest.
Will the layout stay the same in XLSX?
The document is rendered by LibreOffice with a wide set of fonts, including metric-compatible replacements for common Microsoft fonts, so pages usually look the same. Rare fonts are replaced with similar ones, which can shift line breaks slightly.
